Years ago when I began subscribing to Apple Music I hadn’t any practical concept of its algorithms. That was the introduction of Apple Music’s treasury of music available to the public at what then seemed a remarkably digestible price (compared to the cost of purchasing a fresh CD).
Algorithm: late 17th century (denoting the Arabic or decimal notation of numbers): variant (influenced by Greek arithmos ‘number’) of Middle English algorism, via Old French from medieval Latin algorismus. The Arabic source, al-Ḵwārizmī ‘the man of Ḵwārizm’ (now Khiva), was a name given to the 9th-century mathematician Abū Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Mūsa, author of widely translated works on algebra and arithmetic.
My focus is no longer upon Apple’s “library” of music; rather upon its algorithms or what I as the representative ingénue unwittingly characterize as my “Favourites Mix”. These labels include not only Favourites Mix but also Get Up, Chill and New Music. All part of the Favourities club (for “L. G. William”) as opposed for example to the less personalized Henri Mancini Apple Music Film, TV & Stage.
In short what has transpired in the music industry is a more immediate and specific collection of artists and their genres which enables its fluid community. The day passes quickly by. There are already so few features of the day which noticeably impact the day. But for those such as Apple’s “Favourites Mix” (which do linger in one’s world and memory) the impression is inexpressible.
It is but a small step from music to literature, thence to photography and artistry in general. That is, that the mode of expression in life is widely varied. Even as I repeatedly account this daily publication, I am reminded of its variety of expression. I see upon the meandering river an afternoon sailor on a flat-bottomed boat; in the adjoining fields the tiny yellow birds dart in and out among the weeds and flowers; in the distance the agricultural rows of burgeoning corn stalks overtake the acreage. The misty blue sky begins to clarify and strengthen, in the process augmenting the rich contrast of colours across the tableau; viz., emerald, gold, claret, turquoise and purple.
