Arctic Circle, Norway
Hi Bill
Currently we are residents of the Radisson Blu in Longyearbyen on the island of Spitsbergen in the Archipelago of Svalbard in far north Norway – having flown via Stockholm and Oslo and over many fjords and are a mere 1300 km from the North Pole – and it feels it.
Extraordinary town with a surprising number of excellent restaurants and over 60 different nationalities represented. Good coffee shops and bakeries and a very cheerful population. The sun never sets from April to August.
We board ship tomorrow for 14 days of expeditions around the region in search of polar bears.
We have dined on ptarmigan, reindeer and goat – superbly prepared – and the breakfasts are the non pareil of options – incentivizing one to excess.
You can’t drive here.
