Holier than thou!

Weekly attendance at church, temple, synagogue or mosques is a welcome occasion to remind oneself and others of one’s superb elevation from the putrid slop of the gutter wherein persists the waste of humanity. And if I might add – though naturally concealed out of the side of my mouth – the fortifications and castellated tops of the Church of England and its derivative Christian mystics – far surpass the allure of the culturally toxic Eastern spires and turrets which are but more evidence of the infiltration from afar designed to cloud and disturb the atmospheric clarity of our own Star from the East.

The English word “mosque” denotes a Muslim house of worship. The word evolved from the Arabic term masjid, which means “place of prostration.” During prayer, Muslims briefly kneel and touch their foreheads to the ground as a sign of submission (literally, Islam) to the will of God.

Considering the comparative decrepitude and perpetual decomposition of the majority of the parishioners and other religious fanatics it puzzles and upsets me that aside from the cash box and the spiritual hocus-pocus the predominant absorption of those in attendance is the praise and beneficence of an unseen wizard behind a velvet curtain. I would have thought that a more proximate confab would surround the direct improvement of society through the elemental factors of health, education and knowledge. I will confess however that most of the superstitious advocates are quick to dilute their magical performance by reasoning that the attraction is not so much actual belief in the voodoo displays as an assertion of the incomprehensible excitement of the universe. While nonetheless superstitious, it is a parallel which Anglicans in particular (that is, people for whom a spot of sherry is not haram) are quick to adopt. The latter conviction enables even the least deductive mind to withstand the obvious incredulity.

Somewhere on this globe, whether as fish or apes, humanity began its struggle. I am primarily convinced that the evolution was one fought upon animal terms of survival; that is, unqualified dominion. Jumping ahead several millennia or more the “History of England” continues to relate an account of brutal combat between what are now confined to human resources only; namely, people who look or think differently. It is a relevance which continues to this day; and, continues to encourage and sustain the ambition of those intent upon nurturing themselves to do so.

Personally I find very little if anything offensive about other people. While I may not reach the identical intellectual conclusion as others, it is seldom if ever a platform from which I seek to project missiles. Overall I am of the persuasion that all whom I have met seek the same general conclusion. On the other hand I find very little if anything objectionable about Transubstantiation least of all to the point of counselling murder.  I might as well become upset with the garb of Harry Potter.
