The current – almost global – preoccupation of the media and pundits – is denunciation of the latest results of the US presidential election. There has been proposal of action by VP Kamala Harris reminiscent of Trump’s recommendation last election to his VP Mike Pence not to certify the election results; accusations that there is nothing new in the election results but a repeat of what is alleged to be merely the historic American personality (namely predominantly uneducated, bigoted, racist, misogynistic, supercilious and greedy); and, finally, suggestions commensurate with Trump’s conspiracy theories that Elon Musk manipulated the electoral boxes in Trump’s favour and that Trump magically knew in advance that he would win.
Putting aside these slanderous accusations one is hastily reminded that such behaviour is a small compliment to the process in particular not because it is especially unverifiable but because it simply repeats the identical malicious behaviour of the Republicans; that is, name calling, illegality and preposterous theories. Though you would think that such conduct, having preoccupied the electorate (and globe) on both sides for the past four years, would by now be indigestible if not indeed perfectly heinous. But apparently it is not. Overtly though the problem is, as Trump only lately asserted, “from within”; that is, the problem is us not them. And that includes all of us.
There is no logical or psychiatric alternative to support this blameful theory of incessant condemnation. Doing so only pulverizes then inflames the object of discredit as well as distancing those who mistakenly assume such harm and disavowal somehow elevates one’s own unexpressed excellence. It is nothing but war games on an audible level with an ultimate equally indecipherable theorem. The postulations and pollutions on both sides are nothing but cosmetic, at best analgesic but never remedial.
The only thing now that matters – whoever has the privilege of public office – is improvement of society in America in particular and in the world in general. If this, instead of the loose ambition of repetitive defeat, were the sole ambition of the governing bodies, then there is no reason whatsoever that it cannot be achieved. Rather than devote our limited resources to accusations which are likely only to fall upon deaf ears, priority of action and improvement would easily overtake the projections. Naturally this means both sides (and, make no mistake, we live in a binary world by any calculation) must cooperate and work together. Titles of primacy are in reality dedication to others not oneself. That’s the real work of this world.
