The US presidential election is Tuesday, November 5th, 2024. Voters in each state and the District of Columbia will choose electors to the Electoral College, who will then elect a president and vice president for a term of four years. By contrast to this impending event of global curiosity and gravity we here at home have to remember to remove our car from the subterranean garage in anticipation of a floor cleaning.
The election has nonetheless provoked a topical interest; and as a result I have these perhaps gratuitous observations.
GOP
Assuming as I do that Biden won the last election, and having accepted the initial conclusion of the likes of Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Mitch McConnell and many other longstanding Republicans that Donald Trump is a threat to democracy in general and to the GOP in particular, I cannot forgive or ignore their support or endurance of Trump for party leadership. The GOP will forever suffer irreparable discredit for the deceit. The overt abuse has contaminated the erstwhile legitimacy and authenticity of the party.
TRUMP
Trump’s blatant illiteracy, showmanship , mercantile preoccupation, lascivious nature, vulgarity and selfish symbiotic relationships are sufficient to distance me from him and anything he promotes.
MAGA
These predominantly Trump allies are evidence of the vacuity of the masses. They seek to make themselves taller by standing on others. Those who support the process for less than altruistic purposes knowingly fuel the fire for equal ambition.
AUTOCRACY
Submission to a government not based on factuality is dangerous per se.
ELON MUSK
Anyone who publicly parades themselves as a circus clown is beneath my political instincts. His parasitic alliances are similarly demonstrable and shameless. While being buried in a pyramid is an engineering amusement; it isn’t an asset.
VLADIMIR PUTIN
Pretending to have the authority by any measure of logic or social entitlement to declare vicious and bloody war upon others and to engage one’s own citizens in fulfillment of that perverse design is utterly reprehensible. It contradicts everything I hold of value. Everything.
WAR, NORTH KOREA, ISRAEL & PALESTINE
How many times do we need to be told that violence begets violence. That is not a question.
TRASH, comedians and Biden
It’s a two-way street for the common garbage truck. Reciprocal name calling in what is supposed to be a dignified vernacular is inexcusable. Even dandelions, the common weed, can exist, flourish and beautify in vast numbers together.
CONCLUSION
Most people whom I know haven’t any certainty of the outcome of the upcoming US presidential election. It is however clear to most that the outcome will reflect boldly upon the state of affairs worldwide. Just as a plague can spread across continents and oceans so too can the poisons of inhumanity. My objection to the political process is not its machinery; rather it is the threat that the machinery will be clogged by dirt and grime. Perpetuating lies, whether by Trump, his minions or parasites, is not an option of human creativity. Algorithms are the least of the perils. Deceiving others is not a talent; husbands have done it; children do it; employers and employees do it. The greater complement to our behaviour is personal imperatives only. We have a duty to question. It’s up to each of us to make an intelligent choice, the right choice. We govern the rudder of our own ship; and the universe is ultimately personal.
