Changing perspective

The precipitous change from summer to autumn is already but a sketchy memory. The temperature has fallen. The burnished leaves have blown away. The cornfields are harvested. The squawking geese circle endlessly in flight. Daylight Savings Time has begun with its brilliant mornings and monstrously dark afternoons.

Early this morning – so I am told – there was snow on the fields. The first of the season. The snow did not last long enough for me to see it when I clambered from under the duvet mid-morning (in my defence I went to bed last night after midnight). Later on my tricycle I met Lynne in the subterranean garage on her way to grocery shop in preparation for her upcoming field sports. She warned that a significant snowfall of 10 cm is predicted on Sunday though cheerfully not expected to survive the ensuing melt.

Meanwhile in preparation for my less glamorous periodontal surgery next week I have stripped myself of 18K gold accessories (neck chain, pinking ring and signet ring) and temporarily succumbed to the revival of a sterling silver ring (amusingly consisting of three bands with a rotating middle band) purchased at Holt Renfrew in Montréal many years ago on a routine retail exploration. I am still entertained by the revolution of the central band.

These rings are designed with a stationary inner band and an outer band (or in your case, a middle band among three that rotates) that spins freely, often for stress relief or as a fidget mechanism. ChatGPT

Commensurately with the seasonal changes we have addressed our private ongoing evolutions of motor vehicle, artistic advantage and technological improvement. These credentials are as much an ingrained repetition as the corresponding climate progressions. Each has its own complications but – like nature – the lesson is its inescapable consequence like it or not. Predominantly however there is nothing but moderate inconvenience within each of the manifestations, proving once again that patience is imperative, that – as mother always said – it’ll all work out fine!

The novelty, if any, in these otherwise tarsome pursuits is the accommodation of a new decade without prolonged (or perhaps any) travel. I have always cottoned to life in its current and changeable expression. Invariably in retrospect I end acknowledging the prudence of imperative. This naturally encompasses both the immediacy of life and its hidden stimulants. Already I am addressing the manner in which I shall absorb these modifications. There is no disputing that the elements have altered. It would amount to egregious illogical conduct to imagine that one might sustain a dissolving model. Nor is there any admissible advantage in doing so. Forgive, if you will dear Reader, the extreme observation for illustrative purposes, but ultimately Nature teaches us how to die, just as the leaves perish and the crops wither. Beforehand we grapple upon the shifting ladder of currency.

This is certainly not meant to be a gruesome disquisition; instead, it is hoped to commingle change with agreeableness and perhaps the incomprehensible majesty of life. As far as I am concerned there is at hand a vast resource of discovery and expression. I have the unquestionable advantage of my partnership, family and friends. The outlook is good!
