Though if pressed I would never contaminate or compromise my pervasive indolence, secretly I bemoan having nothing to do. Certainly I have my little daily routines – tricycling and a car wash – but they amount to mere cathartic endeavours, exorcising my overall ennui. By chance today a number of events arose which succeed to enable me to devote at least the appearance of activity to my otherwise listless conduct. Following is a summary:
Focus Eye Centre called to book an appointment to have my eyes examined by their latest technology. I have experienced occasions of blurriness. I responded to their initial invitation for the examination in a broadcasted email I received yesterday. Generally speaking I am of the opinion that technology changes by the minute; so whenever I have the opportunity to learn more, I embrace it. For the moment the examination is given at no charge, part of their post-surgery service (6 years ago I paid to have them operate on both eyes, basically to give 20/20 vision for distance, using standard reading magnification). I still wear prescription spectacles but I believe the prescription is moderate only. I am interested to see what they suggest. Meanwhile I haven’t changed the prescription of my spectacles for at least 2 years. This morning in preparation for my attendance at the upcoming examination I drove to their new office on Carling Avenue, not far from the Ottawa Hospital, just to get my bearings confirmed.
Jennifer Weightman of the National Boating Safety School telephoned and emailed me today to confirm details surrounding the Pleasure Craft Operator Cards (PCOC) which are to be prepared and mailed to me following my recent successful attempt at the boating safety exam.
Pierre Lamoureux sent me a follow-up email. Ms. Weightman is not the only person consumed by detail (for which naturally I applauded her). On the heel of her correspondence I received from Lamoureux an amplification of a prior communication regarding whether it is “From Russia with love” or “From Russia, with love”. I confess I am uncertain of the relevance of the question but apparently the gravity has escaped me.
It appears I was mistaken when I said there was no comma. Indeed since these words come back in the book regularly there is always a comma. I can only surmise that I probably read it erroneously and that the question which arose was why there was a comma and not why there was no comma. To try to find that which I read originally is not worth my effort. Should this issue be explained in my reading of the book in the future I will inform you. Pierre Lamoureux
Breathing became difficult. Bond sighed to the depth of his lungs. He clenched his jaws and half closed his eyes, as people do when they want to hide their drunkenness. … He prised his eyes open. … Now he had to gasp for breath. Again his hand moved up towards his cold face. He had an impression of Mathis starting towards him. Bond felt his knees begin to buckle … [he] pivoted slowly on his heel and crashed head-long to the wine-red floor.

Professor Daniel Laprès from Paris, France has meanwhile enlightened a number of us regarding Detention of migrants in Canada. It is a topic having universal implications given the hotly publicized version of migrants in the United States of America. It is a reminder too that none of us is immune to the mistreatment of migrants by our government. The perilous stories emerging from USA concerning Canadian migrants has added yet another layer of caution to international travel.
Hello folks,
To follow up on the detention of migrants, there is such a régime in Canada, with only a few thousand detainees.
Here are a few of its conditions that surprised me as compared with standard practice in France:
– I don’t see any guaranteed judicial procedure to review the grounding and procedural conformity of the detention, and no legal aid,
– no legal limit on the total time of detention,
– the mingling sometimes of detainees with convicts.

Stephen Brown CFA, CFP, CIM®, FCSI, Senior Wealth Advisor, Brown & Associates Wealth Advisory Group forwarded an email entitled “Investment Strategy”. This too has proven to be a subject of common interest and appeal, repeated coincidentally by Fiona St. Clair (who also embraced the migrant legalities as her husband is daily entangled in such matters). By coincidence they met with their financial advisor today for a long conference.
Jeff of Inverness Homes was another unwitting connection to this already occupied agenda. Though Jeff handles property maintenance, he has casually endeared himself as a local and competent supplier of fresh chicken eggs. He lives nearby on the Patterson Street extension which identifies many of the local farms along the river. His credentials – like those of each the others whom we’ve met through Inverness Homes – are commendable and reliable. I consider it a compliment to associate with Inverness Homes, the history and evolution of which continues to enhance itself and the community.
Inverness Homes is privately owned and operated by Kyle MacHutchon of Stittsville, Ontario. Inspired by his father who was a local builder, Kyle started working in the construction industry at a young age. He created Inverness Homes, a home building company that builds in smaller markets throughout the Ottawa Valley.
In conclusion these mundane moorings to society fulfill the need for moderate daily growth and involvement. The energy borders the placid view of the corn fields and the glistening river. I have today expiated my inadequacy. As the late afternoon approaches, the slanting sunlight magnifies the broad, green leaves populating the breadth of the fields to the distant horizon. Once again I am challenged to imagine a more entrancing spectacle.
