The best we can hope for is a constructive (and preferably comforting) dialogue with the mysterious pattern of life. Our narrative – though inescapably aligned with the universal truths and realities- is invariably unique; its detail surpasses any theme – dominant or subordinate – thar we or anyone else might possibly imagine or predict. While we may conceive or pretend to believe that we are more than a tiny boat perilously bobbing on open waters far from land, our moorings seldom constitute more than mere resonance, that is, a reinforcement, a prolongation, a reverberation, a reflection or memory. Resonance is a polite and convenient label for a synchronous vibration, the largest possible response to a signal, a response to a higher energy.
Yet in spite of the enormous dynamics of life – the sometimes incomprehensible and critical details – we are unmistakably enabled by the application of our comparatively limited resources to contribute to the creation of our own relieving and interpretative discourse. There are secrets to the evocation of a voice which is a composite of our own and neighbouring oscillations. Simply put, we are a product not only of all whom we have known but also of all that there is; our resonance is, whether admitted or denied, a reflection of life, the revolution of two bodies about a single primary. It is for this reason we are bound to adopt and cultivate patterns of behaviour that yield to the essence of life. If we were mistakenly to think our select expressions of this alliance are supportable, we unwittingly – and frequently unfavourably – deny ourselves a broader understanding and interpretation of our apparent independence. We are but a short lived subatomic particle that is an excited state of a more stable particle. Our meaning is only an echo.
I have learned by moderate logic and plain fortuity that the design of certain overall balanced and reactive formulas are the most efficient and profitable solutions to the underlying problems and intrigue of life. Whether confronting the immediacy of loss or advantage, there are consistent behaviours that govern the consequences. We can pretend to itemize the philosophy or respond with direct (but restrained) conduct. Always what lingers is the necessity to resonate because, like it or not, that is what we shall do in the end. There is no escaping the fact that we’re but a synchronous vibration of life. This means conceding what we know to be right – though the intelligence is at the core simply reactive.
The loneliness of life is likewise reflected in the tiresome adage that the universe is ultimately personal. We are however spared complete hopelessness by the important knowledge that our resonance with life will preserve us. We can overcome the existential isolation by overt cooperation and occasional acquiescence.
