Listening (as I regularly do) to the popular news channels it is unlikely to escape the manifest nature of the burgeoning American oligarchical political system. As with so much within the Trump dynasty, he and his “compatriots “ have made no secret of their wealth, control and influence. It is flaunted as the American ideal of achievement. The Americans appear willing to accept the Greek heritage of patricians, including the unspoken but aggressively maintained class system (the redeeming feature of which subservience is the stabilizing commitment to the state).
I listened today to the leaders of USA and Israel speaking at the United Nations. It is difficult to contradict their version of things, such statements that “…we cannot allow undocumented migrants into our country – though of course we should give them assistance in their own country” (USA); or, “…anybody would react with vengeance against the Palestinians if they had done that to you “ (Israel). Strangely however there was no mention by either leader about any steps taken toward understanding and cooperation. Laugh if you will, but the only passage to peaceful association is understanding and cooperation not (as Trump loudly proclaimed) having the biggest arsenal of weapons in the world. I doubt that the affections of discomforted Americans will be fully appeased by destroying another nation (such as Iran) yet that is the bait by which the oligarchs maintain their superiority.
It must be acknowledged that Americans are fatigued by the constant disputes among the ruling class (both nationally and internationally). Few if any of us has any idea what the fighting is all about (though my suspicion is that the dispute is motivated by self-interest of the noblemen). They are poised for a quick and simple resolution – the object of any business model. What is to be expected of such a singular group of people? And who can fault them? Yet pushing things out of sight – such as countless politicians seek to do – is proving to be increasingly unpalatable. The condemnation of disputants is now bordering on a call for lynching, not a reflection of any higher human purpose. The world does not hear a voice of reason or improvement. The message to hoi polloi is conflict and revenge no matter how it is retailed.
Nor am I saying that any one of us is above or beneath another. The toxic fume of politics easily dissolves the grandeur of humanity. The masses – for all their perceived minority – inevitably control the outcome. It would nonetheless help if the leaders spent more time focused upon a less commercial goal. And just to complicate the matter even further, in the case of USA we’re talking about the richest nation in the history of the world. Yet notwithstanding the capital, those who have the privilege to be so close to global dominion are far removed from triviality.
