The physical world is naturally undeniable; however a critical analysis would force upon oneself the equally compelling reality of thought, sentiment and emotion. Saying that either – that is, the palpable world or the sentient world – is paramount is likely a draw especially depending upon one’s current perspective and absorption or historic precedent and preoccupation. Exhaustion of one’s appetite for either indulgence – materialism or thought – will as well predict the vista of predominance.
This seemingly meaningless introduction is preface to my rising distinction today between the uncontrollable empirical world that surrounds me and the more immediate universe that is aligned with my corpus and mind. The dichotomy of this personal province is one I have forever conjoined because of the more proximate effect of its union – unlike for example the division which exists between us and the outer world. Gathering together the symbols of expression called apparel, costume, clothing, cosmetics, jewelry, accessories – even scent – is a strategic application. Depending upon the day my inclination varies. If I am anxious or distraught then limitation is the prevailing draught. But were it to be a day of flawless evaporation, then the additional manifestations are boundless.
It remains irrelevant the manner in which I exhibited this particular personal expression today. But for me it is inescapable that I have hooked onto several media by which to distinguish my mental connection with the so-called outer world, the vast universe which extends beyond the unimaginable boundaries of my eyes, ears, smell, taste, skin and thoughts. If I may however contribute at least one rendition of this foray it is this: the world of metals has always attracted me, among them silver, gold and platinum. Throughout my lifetime I have had occasion to delve into those media of expression, largely through what is tritely labelled jewellery but which for me is far more. The acquaintance of the human body with the artistic manipulation of precious and semi-precious metals is an alliance equivalent to matching a plug with an outlet.
Precious metals are rare, naturally occurring metallic chemical elements of high economic value. Precious metals, particularly the noble metals, are more corrosion resistant and less chemically reactive than most elements. They are usually ductile and have a high lustre. Historically, precious metals were important as currency but they are now regarded mainly as investment and industrial raw materials. Gold, silver, platinum, and palladium each have an ISO 4217 currency code.
The background to this demonstration is nothing less mundane than a visit to the dentist’s office for routine scaling; and thereafter a venture to the hinterland of Renfrew County for an extremely palatable luncheon, followed naturally by a ritual car wash, a pedal on my new electric tricycle (the complete narrative of which I have now assimilated) and finally the ineffable positioning at my desk overlooking the river while sipping a mint tea. I mean to say…
