The country drive

Every day is a weekend.  It is one of the unparalleled advantages of old age, yet another bequest which I readily accept with unmitigated gratitude. The other bonuses are too numerous (and no doubt too inconsequential) to name; however I freely assert the uncommon superfluities of beneficence which I am pleased and privileged to relish and enjoy.

For many the autumnal drive is as much a part of the fall agenda as is Thanksgiving.  Getting out of the cocoon to investigate the rural colours and the magnificence of Nature’s decline for another season. It is the binary reflection of springtime, just as summer and winter contradict and balance one another. And the whole encircles the incomparable transition of life and death, youth and age, bloom and pallor.

Much of my time today has been consumed, either directly or indirectly, with the Petro-Canada App. This is not a project which would attract or interest most people.  For me however it is of vital merit. As is so often the case, I have been buying my gas and washing my car at Petro-Canada for almost all my adult life.  Indeed, except when traveling, I cannot recall going anywhere else.

The combination of driving and technology is not at all uncertain.  Every year when I purchase a new automobile I discover yet another technological advancement and I have no hesitation to imagine the progress will continue unfettered. Nonetheless there are clearly occasional wrinkles.  The Petro-Canada App has wrinkles; specifically its Fuel up portion of the App does not work as it should.

I will note though that I have been able to get it to work on two occasions but only at one gas station and not two others I have tried.  The hurdle, I am destined to observe, is of no hindrance other than to my obsessive nature; that is, I am still easily able to pay for my fuel in the customary manner without using the App.  Having said that, I wish to use the App because it enables me to pay for fuel (and to get my associated Petro-Canada Points) without having to carry either a credit card or my Petro-Canada cards (wash or fuel).  This affords an unwitting safety feature (that is, not having to leave cards in the car).  But the bigger advantage for me is that I can attend to these trifling necessities of modern living with less inconvenience. Plus it offends my sensibilities to be encouraged so animately to use a device (App) that doesn’t perform as touted.

I have contacted Petro-Canada Customer Service on several occasions.  Once I succeeded to convince the agent that the problem was Petro-Canada, not me, things moved along more quickly.  The problem was “escalated” to whomever deals with these technical issues.  There may has been some success achieved by having done so but it is most certainly not pervasive.

Meanwhile I continue to enjoy my country drives.
