A strong cup of coffee is an ideal start to the day! Since DD introduced me to the all-in-one Spinn espresso maker I have been absorbed in the variety of coffee makers on the market. This is however but one more intrusion upon my now burgeoning frugality. I hasten to add that my parsimony is far less a product of miserliness than boundless satisfaction.
The gratification of which I speak is the result of having achieved after ¾ a century virtually everything of every particular I have ever desired. Note of course the purely materialistic bent of which I speak; I would not for example wish to be interpreted as closing the door on intellectual, emotional or spiritual advances even after this late date in my existence and in spite of what might reasonably be interpreted as my imminent demise (which latter prescription by the way does nothing but enhance my rapacious nature). The point is this: I have after this prolonged and sometimes mercurial covetous enterprise reached the extreme at which I can quite honestly say, “This is precisely what I have always wanted!”
Granted I am indebted to Dixon Jewellers for their success in having quelled my erstwhile undiminished appetite for perfection. Matt Dixon modestly dismissed my latest approbation of his work by suggesting he was merely responding to what was commanded by his clients, something like, “I am only doing what was asked.”
In the process of examining Mr. Dixon’s latest creation (a ritual frankly I conduct every morning with a measure of cleaning and buffing), I confess it Is evident indeed that he has fulfilled the supreme nature of my request. This is nonetheless a far cry from a true acknowledgement of the technical and artistic talent that goes into the fabrication of the article.
The only disillusionment arising from a close look at the product is the same as derives for example from a piecemeal regard of the finest automobile. They are all conglomerates of individual constituents, constructs of lesser particles to distinguish the greater evolution. The good news is that the limitation proscribes the coarse material world not the wholesome orbit of intellectualism such as springs from an improving book or a fervent conversation with a close friend. I doubt however that this obscures my deepest inclination to the oft blackened material world.
Lest you care to know, I include within the ambit of secular successes the following: fine cotton shirts, smalls and shorts, expandable belts, extra-wide boat shoes, Lincoln automobiles, Dixon Jewellers, Tom Ford and Art Craft spectacles, Apple products and gold teeth. Oh, and one more – a signet ring made by Birks Jewellers years ago based upon a cast from Chapman Jewellers formerly on Yonge Street in Toronto.
