The colourful canvass

The earliest proclamation of springtime was the arrival of flocks of geese along the river.  Their boisterous honking, combined with massive flight patterns, identified them and the season. At the outset the river was bordered by snow-covered ice that afforded the geese a riparian platform on which to settle until the moment they precipitously abandoned the haunt and miraculously sailed into the distance to an undetermined landing. Occasionally they would fly close to the drawing room windows, providing a defined contrasting view of their white undercarriage.

Meanwhile the competition for performance on the rapidly changing stage revealed Lady Bugs and tiny flies.  But the final introduction was the familiar chirp of the red-breasted Robin. It will be only hours before the first bloom of leaves appears on the trees.  Thereafter we can expect the cultivation of the fields and the beginning of planting once again. The cycle repeats.

In the distance Minto Construction is creating its own residential nests upon the geography. In keeping with current favour, there is a combination of apartments and single-family dwellings, complemented by a number of nearby parkland settings.

The political scene is nearing preposterous as the global bullies confront one another with bravado. They speak of mass murder with the same eagerness and nonchalance as a game of Monopoly. And given the devotion of the stock market, it is likely mutual enhancement. Leadership cries for intelligence and generosity. As recently as today a Democratic gubernatorial contender has melted under the heat of allegation of sexual misconduct. Seemingly no one is spared the conflict – but it makes for a highly distasteful camouflage of their erstwhile accusations towards others.  Is our human pattern of behaviour as predictable and repetitive as Nature’s own? Are hoi polloi mere audience in a theatre, bound to endure the spectacle for the price of admission?

Like chirping fledglings in a nest, we are overly anxious to address growth and change. Nature cannot be rushed. The temperatures are on the rise along with the extension of daylight hours. The latest snow squalls have turned to rain. Exuberance and radiance will manifest themselves shortly. Until then we are quietly bound to endure the evolution at any tempo. Each fraction of the progression is its own gratifying resource. Like the riverside geese we must remain vigilant notwithstanding our superior concerns. Foreseeably the mandates will survive. The brushstrokes of the artist will create the image.
