With only a day remaining in the month of September, the weather forecast for the next week is a combination of superb and ideal – sunshine and, for a third of the time, above average temperatures. Ornamented by the honking geese and the huge flocks of them landing upon the river, plus the fully grown fields of yellow corn stalks, the environment is a spectacle of sunshine and blue sky. The deep balmy wind carries within its nutritious scope a limitless imagination.
Late September can still bring warm, “summer-like” weather in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and parts of North America, though it is technically the end of the astronomical summer season, which shifts into autumn by the September Equinox. For a truly hot experience in late September, destinations like Cyprus, Malta, or the southern coast of Spain would be good choices.
From the start, the day was irresistible. Earlier than usual this morning (I heard the school bell at nine o’clock), I was on my tricycle and rounding the neighbourhood corners, sparsely dressed in Hodo Sport shorts and Antiqua Polo shirt (both convenient for the subsequent repose on the balcony in the dry oven-like heat).
There is no denying the balmy air has its own private nourishment. It noticeably affected everyone. Wherever I went, whomever I saw or passed along the way – they all exuded a magical elation and elevation. Motorists along the roadways and highways were approaching politeness. The weather – and the colourful time of the year – combined to affect an inexpressible beauty which nobody could contradict. It was simply one of those days that make you wonder if there were anything wrong about life.
Ironically I am hesitant to predict what the effect of this huge sunny forecast (this wave or front) will be upon us humans. If the sunshine lasts as long as predicted, we risk disassembling the fortuity and becoming accustomed to such meteorological prosperity. On my motor drive this afternoon I found myself recalling the gentle Florida weather on Longboat Key or Key Largo. Nothing surpasses such magnificent weather. It makes everything right.
